Consultation-led wrinkle-relaxing treatment

Lines caused by repeated muscle movement can often be softened with anti-wrinkle treatment. The aim is a fresher, more relaxed appearance, while keeping movement natural and avoiding an over-treated look. Because these treatments involve prescription-only medicine, suitability and prescribing need to be assessed properly in person.

Anti-wrinkle treatment

A measured approach to lines caused by facial movement.

Anti-wrinkle treatment is most useful for dynamic lines – the lines that appear because of repeated facial expression and muscle movement. The aim is not to freeze the face or change how you look dramatically, but to soften stronger movement where it is creating lines that make you look more tired, tense or older than you feel.

A good result depends on careful assessment rather than simply treating “areas”. Face shape, muscle strength, brow position, skin quality and overall balance all matter. Treatment therefore starts with consultation, discussion and examination, not a one-size-fits-all formula.

Botulinum Toxin

The intention is usually to soften stronger lines while preserving facial expression. Over-treatment rarely gives the best result.

Areas commonly discussed

The exact plan depends on your anatomy and goals, but the most common concerns include:

Forehead lines

Horizontal lines that become more visible on raising the brows.

Frown lines

Vertical lines between the brows that can give a tense or tired appearance.

Crow’s feet

Lines at the outer corners of the eyes that deepen with smiling.

Bunny lines

Fine lines over the bridge or sides of the nose.

Gummy smile

Treatment may be discussed where upper gum show is a concern.

Consultation and treatment planning

The consultation is used to decide whether treatment is appropriate, proportionate and likely to help.

At consultation, the discussion is not simply about where lines are visible. It is also about what is causing them, whether they are dynamic or static, how much movement reduction would suit your face, and whether there are any reasons treatment may be unsuitable.

This is also the point at which realistic outcomes are discussed. Anti-wrinkle treatment usually softens movement-related lines well, but very deep lines may only improve partially, particularly at first. The best result is often a subtle one.

What is usually covered

Suitability

Medical history, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and any relevant neuromuscular issues are reviewed.

Areas of concern

Which lines trouble you most, and whether they are movement-related.

Expected result

What can reasonably be softened, and how natural you want the result to look.

Maintenance

Effects are temporary and future treatment timing is discussed individually.

What treatment usually involves

A short appointment with no significant downtime for most patients

Treatment is performed using a series of small injections in the planned areas. The appointment itself is usually straightforward and relatively quick. Most patients return to normal day-to-day activity afterwards, although final aftercare advice should always follow the specific areas treated.

The effect develops gradually rather than immediately, and review is usually at around two to three weeks if needed. Because the effect is temporary, repeat treatment may be considered later, depending on muscle return and your own preference.

  • Usually a short outpatient appointment
  • Small injections to carefully selected points
  • No routine downtime for most patients
  • Result develops gradually over days to around two weeks
  • Review can be offered after treatment

Frequently asked questions

Initial change is usually noticed over several days, with the full effect often becoming clearer by around two weeks.

The effect is temporary and commonly lasts several months, although this varies between patients and treatment areas.

That should not be the aim. The usual intention is to soften stronger movement while keeping a natural appearance.

Treatment is not suitable in some situations, including pregnancy and breastfeeding, and may be unsuitable in certain neuromuscular conditions. These issues are reviewed at consultation.
