Reasons for Revision Surgery
Revision surgery may be considered for a number of reasons, including:
- Capsular contracture (hardening and tightening of the scar tissue
around the implant) - Implant rupture or failure
- Implant displacement or asymmetry
- Rippling or visible implant edges
- A wish to change implant size or type
- Implant removal without replacement
Assessment
Revision surgery is often more complex than primary augmentation. A thorough assessment is essential, including a review of your original operative details where possible and, in some cases, imaging of the implants prior to surgery.
Mr Lewis will discuss the findings of your assessment and the available options in detail at consultation.
The Procedure
The nature of revision surgery varies depending on the indication. It may involve implant exchange, capsulectomy (removal of the scar capsule), repositioning of the implant pocket, or complete implant removal. In some cases a breast lift may be recommended at the same time. Recovery times and aftercare will be discussed based on the procedure planned.
Your Consultation
All consultations are with Mr Lewis personally. There is no obligation to proceed following consultation, and all options including non-surgical management will be discussed where relevant.
