About the Procedure
Thigh lift surgery removes excess skin and fat from the inner thighs, and in some cases the outer thighs, to improve contour and reduce skin chafing and irritation. It is most commonly performed as part of a body contouring programme following bariatric surgery or significant weight loss.
The incision for an inner thigh lift is placed in the groin crease, where it is well concealed. More extensive procedures involving greater skin removal require a longer scar extending down the inner thigh. The most appropriate technique will be discussed based on your anatomy and the degree of excess skin present.
The Procedure
Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic. Operating time varies depending on the extent of the procedure. An overnight stay is usually recommended.
Recovery
A compression garment is worn for six weeks. Most patients take two to three weeks off work. Strenuous activity and prolonged walking should be avoided for six weeks. Swelling will settle progressively over several months.
Risks
Risks include bleeding, infection, wound healing difficulties, scar migration, and lymphoedema. Wound healing complications are more common in this area than in some other body contouring procedures, and this will be discussed honestly at consultation. All risks will be covered in full before any decision is made.
