About the Procedure
Labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia minora (the inner folds of the vulva) where they are causing functional symptoms. Surgery is offered on the basis of clinical assessment and documented functional symptoms; it is not performed for cosmetic reasons alone.
The most commonly used technique trims the excess tissue directly (trim technique) or removes a wedge of tissue to reduce size while preserving the natural edge (wedge technique). The most appropriate approach will be discussed at consultation based on your anatomy and concerns.
The Procedure
Surgery is performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on patient preference and clinical factors. It is usually a day case procedure and takes approximately one hour.
Recovery
Swelling and bruising are expected and will resolve over several weeks. Most patients are comfortable returning to a desk-based role within one week, though complete healing of the tissues takes six to eight weeks. Sexual activity and exercise should be avoided for six weeks.
Risks
Risks include bleeding, infection, wound breakdown, asymmetry, and changes in sensation. All risks will be discussed in full at consultation.
Your Consultation
All consultations are with Mr Lewis personally. A thorough assessment will be undertaken to ensure surgery is appropriate before any decision is made. There is no obligation to proceed following consultation.
